Why Rescue a Dog?

Rescue dogs often find themselves homeless, through no fault of their own. Owners have multitudes of reasons that lead to the homelessness of their pets.

Rescue dogs are:

  1. thoroughly evaluated by their experienced foster families,
  2. appropriately matched with a family that suits his or her individual needs,
  3. placed on a trial basis to start,
  4. always allowed to be returned to the rescue if they do not fit in,
  5. up-to-date on all shots, neutered/spayed, and medically evaluated,
  6. and likely to change your life by the love and companionship they offer

Please consider bringing a rescued dog into your home instead of purchasing one from a breeder. Or, how about a mutt to play with your pure-bred? Yes, shelter dogs might need some specific attention, but this is usually just from a lack of attention in their previous home. Nearly all behaviors can be molded with the proper knowledge and dedication. Thousands of innocent shelter animals are needlessly euthanized each day in the United States.

Reasons We Have Heard For Dog Surrender

"She DOESN'T bark."

"I'm not paying to get that dog out of the shelter AGAIN."

"We are moving to a place that doesn't allow pets or dogs this big."

"My spouse/child is allergic."

"I don't have enough time."

"The kids have gone off to college, and we don't want the responsibility."

Sound silly? Unfortunately these reasons are far too common for surrendering a creature who has devoted it's life to adoring you.
